This is a handy beginner’s guide which first discusses the origins of Zen Buddhism, and its teachings. It then covers the purposes of practicing “Zen” before moving onto discussing exactly how to apply it in daily life. In my opinion, the most handy part of the book is chapter 4, which discusses 4 of the main poses, with illustrations, before moving onto the steps. I try to consume as many books on this topic as possible, as I believe that meditation is the only way to inner peace. In my view, this book is a nice simple way to get started.

I am a true beginner and that’s why I bought this book. I think it is well written, easy to read, and super informative. In my opinion, Zen is a difficult subject to understand and to practice. I’ve never ever really been able to go far in meditation, as my mind is always “racing”, but with some of the tips in this book, I have been able to overcome that first initial hurdle and get better. The book did a really good job of helping me achieve that breakthrough, and for that alone I think it’s worth the 5 stars I have given it.

I am beginner in meditation, hence the reason why I bought this book. I really like the way it is written and so easy to read. The zen is actually a tough subject to understand and to practice. As I said I am a beginner and when it comes to meditate and focus on “nothing”, even though is sounds strange, it is hard to focus on nothing or not focus on anything. This book teaches well how to overcome the difficulties in meditation and also links it to mindfulness which is another very interesting subject discussed in it.

Excellent guide to a more zen life! I got interested in Buddhism and a more Zen way of life after watching a crash course in Modern History on youtube about Buddhism. It got me following the teachings of Alan Watts, and finally I ended up purchasing this book. It is an excellent summary of the most important elements of a Zen life – and how to implement it into our every day lives. I will keep coming back to it, and I recommend it to anyone interested in living a more peaceful, mindful life!

I’m very interested in this topic and feel that the author did a great job and making the reader understand how much dedication id required in order to fully receive peace and calm for the mind body and soul. It will not come instantly and meditation and yoga can be practices in order to enhance your capabilities. There are great images within the book that help guide you and make it much easier to grasp.

No fluff, just what you need to get started. I found out I was doing it wrong this whole time- I have tried to meditate many times in the past, but always just ended up falling asleep (not bad on its own, but not the purpose). This guide showed me in what position to practice Zen, and this made all the difference for me. Awesome guide.

I wanted to try meditation and I found and read this book. In this book, I found a lot about meditation and I try it on. I was very surprised what I have found in this book, there are all details about meditation and that inspires me to start it. But this book was too short for me, because I wanted to find more. I recommend to all.
