Nice therapeutic practice for stretching and strengthening the back

Although I was unfamiliar with instructor Kanta Barrios prior to purchasing this DVD, I did some research and found out that she is Anusara-trained, which was one of the main things that attracted me to this video. In fact, her instruction feels very similar to the Anusara classes which I have attended.

Really helped relieve my lower back pain!

Every once in a while, I move wrong and “throw out my back” and suffer from terrible back pain. Today was one such day. I could hardly walk. I took pain relievers, applied ice/heat and even put on a back support. Finally, I remembered that there are a few yoga videos available on Amazon prime. I’m very new to yoga. I literally only started a week ago. My lower back was so painful and tight, I was willing to try anything. I was worried that this might be too difficult and painful, but found that the stretches actually helped relieve my tight, spasming muscles. While I couldn’t fully extend my legs for some of the poses because I’m just not that flexible yet, I did what I was able to do and found my pain level greatly reduced after just 20 minutes of this video! There were a few stretches I skipped because my back twinged a little more than I liked, however, the stretches I was able to do helped a lot. The pace that Kanta Barrios sets for this video is very slow and perfect for a beginner like me. I did have to pause the video a few times as I figured out the poses or got out some of the additional equipment she uses. The items she uses in this video besides a yoga mat are: a yoga block, a yoga strap/belt, a folded blanket, a chair and a bolster or other sturdy pillow.

Helped a Lot!

I’ve done this twice now after doing some other video exercise routines, including Barrios’ for beginners. This one is more focused on back issues and goes a little slower. Her voice is pleasant for stress reduction and the directions are sufficient, although still a bit fast-paced. I expect it will get more familiar with practice. The important thing is that my back is much better after about three weeks of stretching and Yoga. I am still working out at gym, but going a little easier with the weights and going for quality not quantity. I am 73 years old, so recovery is getting slower and needs more deliberate focus.

"Yoga Therapy for Back Pain"is great for beginners like me

 on April 17, 2012
I received this dvd 5 days ago and so far it’s been working great for me. I have tried yoga maybe only a handful of times and that was years ago. I appreciate the slow pace, and the calm/tranquil environment helps with stress relief. I hate getting out of bed in the morning however following this dvd first thing gives me a good wake-up call with gradual stretching that feels great on my muscles. Also it was important to me that I can do a 30min yoga session versus a full hour. This dvd is broken up into multiple chapters so that’s especially nice that I can do the brief warm-up and then pair it with the lower back/hip/etc.chapter without having to do the entire dvd at one time.

It’s relaxing, easy to follow and focuses on the back and lower body. There are a few items you might want to grab first.

I take yoga 1-2 times a week and like to supplement a few extra days at home. I mostly do yoga due to back pain, so I was happy to find this video. I do like the video. I wish they mentioned in the beginning what extra supplies you need. It was a little annoying have to pause a few different times to go find a chair, blanket, band and block. It is a slower paced video without any very strenuous moves and is appropriate for beginners. The setting is relaxing, mostly with nature backgrounds. The instructor was helpful and easy to follow. I was very excited to find this when browsing through Prime yoga videos and will be doing this once a week to help my back.

Best video for hip and back pain!

Oh my god, this is amazing. I’ve been doing Kanta’s videos for a few months now, and my back and hip pain is completely gone. I’m new to Yoga, and most videos I tried were too fast, felt too chaotic, or weren’t focused enough on the hips and back. I switch between this one and her relaxation one, and I can’t believe how much better I feel. They’re slow, give you enough time in each pose to really feel the stretch, and Kanta herself is very soothing. No more chiropractic visits. No more heating pad. No more pain relievers. I’m a total convert.

Highly recommend for lower back pain relief!

I started this yoga practice because I had relentless lower back pain. Every time I would rise from a seated position, roll over in bed, or rise in the morning, my lower back would cry out in pain. I felt much older than my 53 years! I was active with walking, hiking, and spinning; yet, my tight back always interfered with my motion. I am convinced that this yoga practice is responsible for the relief I now feel in my lower back. I’ve seen tremendous improvement in my ability to follow the moves, and if I miss a week of practice, I feel the return of the lower back pain. I try to do this yoga therapy at least once a week and have been following it for about a year. If you are just starting out, I’d suggest committing to 2-3 times a week until you feel relief, and then you can practice less often to maintain. I like that I can do this in the privacy of my own home and that it focuses so completely on my back issues.

I’m a beginner to yoga and so far I’ve only done one other video with Kanta as well. Hey voice is very soothing and I find her instructions easy to follow and the whole theme of the video is very relaxing.
