365 daily reflections offering a way to integrate the mindfulness that yoga teaches into everyday life, from the acclaimed yoga teacher, Rolf Gates.

As more and more people in the West pursue yoga in its various forms, whether at traditional centers, in the high-powered atmosphere of sports clubs, or on their own, they begin to realize that far from being just another exercise routine, yoga is a discipline of the body and the mind. Whether used in the morning to set the tone for the day, during yoga exercise itself, or at the end of the day, during evening reflection, the daily reflections in Meditations from the Mat will support and enhance anyone’s yoga journey.

Rather sad to have finished it!

 on August 26, 2012
By Fitzgerald Fan
LOVE, LOVE, LOVED this book. I really enjoyed reading it every day. It is designed to be read one entry at a time (once a day for a year), but often I found myself reading ten or fifteen entries. Every entry comes with an epigraph (I am a huge fan of epigraphs)and the entry expounds upon that epigraph.

Interesting, intriguing, and impactful!

This book exceeded my expectations. Being only somewhat experienced in the physical aspects of yoga, and being COMPLETELY inexperienced in the spiritual/philosophical aspects of yoga, I found this book to be incredibly interesting and informative. I loved the style of his writing, as well as the content and format. Wonderful, inspiring, and thought-provoking book. I highly recommend to those new to yoga or those who have been involved with it for years – I think it would inspire all levels/types of yoga practitioners.

Great Daily Tool

Sure, some might say this book can be a bit cheesy, or a weird read, but it’s amazing for what it is. What it is, is simply a daily prompt for reflection. I pick the book up every morning and read a whatever it is for that day (I don’t try to read more than the content for one day, it’s usually just a couple of paragraphs, which take a minute or two to read).

Daily Inspiration and Reflection

This book sits next to “my” chair in the living room, and I pick it up daily for contemplation and inspiration. I confess to generally reading more than one entry at a time, but I know I will be reading it again and again. Rolf has done a great job of combining the ancient teachings of yoga with inspiration from spiritual leaders of all faiths and everyday people as well. It is apparent that he walks the path, and he shares his struggles and his insights with us. Even though he is a more accomplished yoga student and a more learned yoga scholar than I am, I feel as though we share a bond of longing and discovery. I highly recommend this book.

Amazing Book in a Daily Devotional Format

 on July 15, 2016
By Jon Brulotte
I took a yoga instructors advice and purchased this book to learn more about the other limbs of yoga besides just being focused on the asana aspect of the practice. Wow. I wasn’t expecting how life changing this book has become for me. The authors in a very methodical way bring together the 8 limbs of yoga and why each is NECESSARY for the proper balanced practice of a yogi. I have recommended this book to numerous books and work through it on a regular basis. Simply life changing.

Convenient & grounding

This book is set up with 365 days of short meaningful chapters, ranging from 1/2 page to a couple of pages per day. It is perfect for a quick read in the morning, or before your practice. I find it very grounding without having to set aside a lot of time.

Gentle wisdom and excellent ah-ha moments

Lovely book, gentle, non-judgemental, perceptive wisdom. Excellent quotes and follow-up text. Easy education of the Yamas and Niyamas, patterns to renounce or cultivate. You don’t need to be a yoga practitioner to benefit from this book. I recommend it whole-heartedly.

A Healing Book!

 on April 5, 2017
By Diane
I have been practicing yoga for about 20 years and this has become one of my favorite Yoga books because it delves into the application of the philosophy of Yoga. His background of overcoming drug addiction and finding out on his own about the healing of this ancient practice lends this book a very human quality. He’s humble, realistic, sometimes funny and always honest….great read.

I really love this book. I’m in teacher training and wish I read this before I started training because it makes the teachings of yoga so understandable!
