Wonderful for Children
This book is exactly as titled. Meditation for Beginners. I have been practicing and teaching mediation for quite some time, and am currently using this book and CD in the Behavioral Health Center for children I work at. I bought this book and CD to help me facilitate meditation classes when I can not be there for class due to other job responsibilities. Last class I could not be present. I gave the cd to a entry level staff member and asked him to facilitate the class for me by playing the CD, which he did. I followed up with him today and the children and they loved it. The message and instruction was very easy to follow. I instructed the staff member to only do the first meditation because I wasn’t sure if the kids were prepared for the other meditations. Well, after the first meditation the kids begged him to let them do more. Turns out that these kids with ADHD, Aggression, Impulse Control, Depression, PTSD, you name it they ended up meditating for over 30 minutes (willingly!!) and were able to do it without a qualified teacher present.
Kindle Version NO AUDIO
The Kindle version does not include audio, which was a bit of a distraction since the audio is mentioned quite frequently.
What about my CD though?
The book is good, the information is great. But I felt cheated about not receiving the CD of meditations since I got the Kindle version. Maybe I am missing something? Good book but want the full experience.
Easy to Read, Understand; Jack Kornfield helped change my Life!
Jack Kornfield is known by the meditation community as being one of the most well known and liked teachers in the Western Hemisphere. His workshops usually sell out in advance.
Jack is one of my all time favorite meditation teacher
Jack is one of my all time favorite meditation teacher, and he is recognized and respected all of US, Burma, Thailand etc for his teachings and his wisdom. Like all meditation books — it might seem foreign and difficult, but it’s just our mindset on what we don’t understand. N Jack did a great job in a gently walking through all the first steps in learning meditation. Check out the rest of his books and Pema’s, super worth it and well done. 🙂
Book review for beginners
I haven’t had a chance to look at the book close, but so far it looks good. So far, I have underlined a few points I find highly important for me as I return to the book to look for more information to help me further with Meditation
Is this a re-release?
If this is a re-release of the DVD of the same title by Jack Kornfield with the cover that is half peach colored and half green colored, then it’s definitely worth purchasing (unless you already have the one I just mentioned). Jack Kornfield is an excellent teacher. He has a very calm voice and presence with gentle humor and wonderful comments and stories. This DVD (whether it’s new or the old one) would be an excellent introduction to meditation. Just be aware that it might be a re-release.
My yoga teacher, friend and mentor recommended this book to me. I absolutely love it! Even though I have other guided meditations and also meditate solo, I come back to this one over and over again. The book is basically a transcript of the cd. I have loaded the cd on my phone so I can take it with me when I travel. Jack has a warm voice, a lovely sense of humor and he gradually leads you through a series of meditations that help you develop your skills. I’ve heard many versions of the LovingKindness meditation, but I think his is the loveliest I’ve ever done. I have bought quite a few copies of this set for friends.
Great for Beginners!
This is a great place to start for those mildly curious or considerably more interested about the process of daily Meditation. Instead of a complicated or over analyzed explanation, Kornfield sticks to the basics and makes it very easy for the novice to begin the journey. An easy read, but well worth the time.
My partner and I are neophytes to meditation. This CD came highly recommended by a friend who has been meditating for years.
