Maritza Meditation for Beginners
I have a different DVD that’s for beginners from the same company (Gaiam) that I’ve been using. I highly recommend it even if you don’t use the light yoga sessions before and after the meditation. However, I prefer this one because it’s all Maritza. The meditation is quite similar but I enjoyed the “body scan” section and the interview with Maritza. It may be helpful for some to know that this is “mindfulness” meditation and doesn’t have any kind of religious component to it. You’re simply clearing your mind in order to bring a calm focus to your thoughts and actions.
i do this meditation every day, twice a day. maritza is, hands-down, the best meditation guru i’ve ever experienced. no religious mumbo jumbo, just good vibes. no chanting, just mindfulness and concentrating on breath. she teaches you techniques that truly help clear the mind. plus, there’s a light yoga program and a body scan meditation–all are more beneficial than i can explain, either done separately or all together for a nice, long program. this dvd saved my life–which i know sounds a little grandiose, but i’m not kidding. if you’re searching for stress relief, get this.
It’s just OK
Not the greatest choice to spend your money on. Her voice is nice and relaxing, as other reviews have said; however her voice is very low and the music and bell tones play loud over her speaking. I do like the bell tones that’s played on the meditation part but wanted more from this DVD. It was not what I expected, as I did expect a little more from the guided meditation, and it should go a bit longer than it does as well. I also found it annoying that the meditation stops abruptly and changes the music.
Wish there were more by her
Favorite DVD, maybe. I wanted to try yoga and meditation, but had always been overwhelmed by other yoga DVDs, or irritated by other people trying to lead me in meditation. Most people sound like they are trying too hard to be soft spoken and inspiring, or say things that annoy/distract me, but this DVD was perfect. Not only did I really take to the yoga and am now well beyond beginner, I still use this DVD when I want a QUICK relaxing yoga session or to quiet my mind with the meditation. By this point, years later, I could do without the DVD, but really like her instructions, and find I prefer to follow along. I have tried to find other products by Maritza, but alas, I cannot. I found her to be soothing and genuine and frank (not too New Age-ish- which is just not to my personal taste).
Good dvd for am/pros
This was my first meditation dvd purchase. I’ll have to keep this for use at a later time. Some of the positions are a little difficult for me to do. I am a senior with back and hip issues so moving into and then sitting in some of the positions prove to be hard for me. The settings were amazing and the music is very soothing. I’ll just have to save this for when I am a little more flexible.

The benefits of this DVD far outweigh the price. As a brand new student of meditation, I wasn’t sure what to expect. The DVD flows beautifully together. I’ve only been able to make it through the Yoga and Body Scan before falling asleep each time, which just shows you how fantastic this DVD is at getting you to relax. I use this DVD once a week on Sunday and find it a perfect way to transition to a new week. Plus I think the scenes and sounds are from Hawaii. – ahhhhhhh….
Awesome Yoga and Mediatation DVD!!!
I have been using this DVD for years. It is a great intro to Yoga and Meditation, but is also great for those experienced with Yoga and Meditation. Maritza is awesome and provides a soothing and relaxing narration throughout the DVD. The tools she teaches you will definitely help you control stress in your life, and help you learn to live in the moment and clear your mind of the constant mind chatter of daily life. After a while, you will be able to instantly de-stress and clear your mind, regardless of where you are. These are tools that will take time to integrate, but over time, you will find that you are more in control of your mind and your life. Maritza is awesome!!! Breathe!!!
Glad I bought this
Bought this for a friend for her birthday. She’s been having trouble sleeping. If she wakes up in the middle of the night and can’t get back to sleep, she plays this on her computer, then goes back to bed and sleeps the rest of the night. She reports that if she plays it before she goes to bed, she goes to sleep right away.
Simple, yet effective for the beginner
I have been doing yoga for 18 years, so I am familiar with the poses on this DVD. However, Maritza’s choice of specific postures (many focused on the spine which is my problem area) are very effective at promoting relaxation and are non strenuous. I find myself doing her routine more often than my other yoga exercises these days. I have also been doing body scan meditation and mindfulness practice for years(not regularly as I should) but I find I am more likely to follow through with her routine and instructions as they are simple and to the point. I also find her voice calming. I think this is a good DVD for anyone interested in beginning meditation and it works for those of us who also have some experience with the subject but might lack the proper motivation : )
Great 1st time Mediation DVD
I purchased this DVD for the guided
