It may be awhile before you can actually read this, but get it for later!

Someone suggested this book, after I lost my 32 year old daughter to cancer. I ordered it, tried to read it, and put it down. It stayed stacked with other books, for two years. The beginning of this year I came across it again, opened and read. Now, I can finally read and appreciate it. It is six days until my daughter’s birthday (my Valentine’s baby), and this excerpt especially touched my heart.

I lost my husband l0 months ago and a neighbor gave me this book. I cannot explain how many of the daily readings spoke directly to me. These readings are written by people who also have lost a loved one and they spoke of their agony. It seems I was no longer alone. These people shared the same agony I am still experiencing.

I read it again and again for comfort.

I ordered this because I had just lost my dog. I know this is probably for human loss but I still pick it up after 8 months to find help. I feel that loss is loss and when you have a dog that is your constant companion for 16 1/2 years, you grieve over them as well.

I look forward to reading this every morning. I’m 57 and my Mom passed away very suddenly August 6, 2016. My Dad passed away 14 months previously – at times it more than I can handle – being no ones child has been a rather rude awakening to me.

Worthwhile Book, Highly Recommended

Out of all of the grief recovery books I have turned to after the unexpected and sudden death of my beloved husband, this one is the best. It has chronological entries w/ dates of the year, but at this point I am still just opening it randomly and reading whatever entry I have opened to (& it does not have to be read in order). This book does not “fix” anything. But more often than not, I have felt at least somewhat comforted by the realization, when reading it, that I am not alone in the feelings I am experiencing. At times, I have also come away with a slightly different perspective about those feelings. There are quotations from many different sources, explanations & elaborations, and takeaway thoughts on each page. This is a time when it is almost impossible to read entire chapters–but it is possible to read and digest the single-page entries in this book. This book is not at all preachy & does not give superficial answers. But as someone almost paralyzed by mind-boggling, unrelenting, nearly unbearable grief, I can tell you that it is a worthwhile book to have and to turn to in the midst of your pain.

I don’t write many reviews but this book is so exceptional that I had to write a review. My five year old son died suddenly and accidentally in 2013. I thought my life was over. I am an avid reader and bought every book on grieving I could find to try to help me cope and figure out how to keep living.

Someone gave me a copy of this book when my husband passed away. I found it to be VERY comforting. I have since given copies of Healing After Loss to several friends who have suffered a loss. The daily meditations are short and spot on address your suffering. I will continue to give it to the bereaved.

The best book for healing from grief.

This is the best book I have found for help with the deep and long and unbearable grieving process. My husband of 26 years died from ALS after 2 years with a horrible disease. The author suffered her own unimaginable loss, losing her teenage daughter from an accident while on vacation. The format, which gives a daily quote and then a few very thoughtful paragraphs, is perfect. Just something you can pick up daily or not, and reread them several times. The quotes are from various sources-religious or not, famous or not. I found that the comments really reached me on a personal level. They were comforting and helped stretch my insight into my own feelings and allow me to get a little step closer to healing. I am ordering another copy for a friend who has just gone through the same loss.

A true gem!

After losing my husband several years ago, I was given this little book by a friend who happens to be a social worker. She had received this book after losing her son. I have treasured some of these passages, which have helped me navigate the very personal journey of the loss of a loved one that we will all experience one day or another…highly highly recommend this little book!

I bought this book when I was coping with the loss of my grandmother- she was the first person close to me that I have lost. I found this book on here and couldn’t be more glad that I did. Every time that I read it, a sense of comfort comes over me. It’s extremely relatable and helpful to get in the right mindset. Everyone goes through grief and this book could be more spot on with words of love, inspiration and motivation.
