Perhaps no other person has done more to bring mindfulness meditation into the contemporary landscape of America than Jon Kabat-Zinn. Through a number of research studies, and through Kabat-Zinn's pioneering work at the University of Massachusetts Medical School where he is founder of its world-renowned Stress Reduction Clinic, mindfulness is finally being recognized as a highly effective tool for dealing with stress, chronic pain, and other illnesses.
Now with this four-part home training course, Jon Kabat-Zinn offers listeners the definitive mindfulness meditation practice on CD. We are not trying to actively achieve a state of deep relaxation—or any other state for that matter—while practicing mindfulness, he teaches. But interestingly, by opening to an awareness of how things actually are in the present moment, we often taste very deep states of relaxation and well-being of both body and mind.
Join the bestselling author of Coming to Our Senses (Hyperion, 2005) and Wherever You Go, There You Are (Hyperion 1995) to develop and deepen your personal mindfulness practice, and to taste the universal aspects of stillness, clarity, wisdom, compassion, and well-being that Guided Mindfulness Meditation offers.

What I like the best about this CD series is the peacefulness and better health that I now have.
I would recommend purchasing the book by Jon Kabat Zin
I suffer from chronic back pain and this meditation series was a turning point for me in dealing with my pain. After 10 weeks of practicing these meditations my pain has changed from about a pain level 7 to a pain level 2 on most days. I would recommend purchasing the book by Jon Kabat Zin, Full Catastrophe Living, and his meditations CD’s on Chronic pain to accompany these meditations. The book more full explains the meditations and chronic pain and how to live life fully despite having pain issues. As a Christian, I was reluctant to meditation that might be Buddhist in nature, however, these meditations are completely universal and neutral with no intention of trying to convert anyone to Buddhism. These meditations have been used successfully at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center for years with patients that suffer from pain and other health issues. I highly recommend this CD.
Dr. Kabat-Zinn is one of the top experts in teaching Mindfulness. These cd’s are one example of his great skill.
I listen to these cd’s frequently to help reduce stress, relax myself and help me fall asleep. With Mindfulness practice a person is supposed to listen fully and participate with the entire exercise, but Dr. Kabat-Zinn is so effective I’ve had difficulty staying awake when I am needing restfulness in addition to stress relief.
I had to buy this CD for my mental health …
I had to buy this CD for my mental health clinical rotation. When I first started the CD, I could not stay away. However, now I feel relaxed and actually look forward to using the CD. Honestly, keep an open mind when using this! It is helpful! The only reason why i gave it 4 stars was because the man’s voice is sometimes so soft that it puts me to sleep depending on how tired I am.
Great stress reliever, alternative to anxiety meds
I purchased this CD set along with the terribly titled but fascinating and inspiring book “Full Catastrophe Living”, which details his stress reduction program and its benefits and applications. The meditations on this CD make better sense to me after having read the book, but you might still get a lot out of them on their own.
very good cd’s just don’t listen while driving. LOL
This course would be good for anyone no matter what condition they are in
I was on medication for depression when I started this program. I had tried to stop the medication a couple weeks before but had to go back on it. Two weeks after starting this course I was off the medication and the depression was a thing of the past. I am convinced this is due to the practice of meditation as guided by Jon Kabat-Zinn. This course would be good for anyone no matter what condition they are in. It is life changing.
Mindful Meditation Tapes Really Help
While some people have commented on Jon’s voice either being too slow or irritating the point of mindful meditation is to quiet the mind – not listen to someone chatter a lot. The discs have proven to be very helpful for me in learning to be more mindful and calmer.
I really like CD 1) Body Scan and CD 3) Sitting Meditation
I really like CD 1) Body Scan and CD 3) Sitting Meditation. The other two surely need video support, one cannot teach swimming by talking.
John kabat-zin is cited in all sorts of clinical peer reviewed journals as a leader in mindful practice. i’m a therapist and started using these for self care and clinical purposes. these are really about helping you to reconnect mind and body. it takes a lot of practice and he recommends you come skeptically and be willing to do it 6 days a weeks, one time per day for at least 8 weeks before you decide if meditation is for you.
