The power of prayer as one of meditation methods for health is well known to those who believe in God. I chose this article to show that prayer is just another type of meditation which can help improve health and other aspects of our life. Large number of people in the United States are practicing prayer as a form of alternative therapy for healing.

“That’s right, regular prayer and meditation has been shown in numerous scientific studies to be an important factor in living longer and staying healthy. Prayer is the most widespread alternative therapy in America today. Over 85 percent of people confronting a major illness pray, according to a University of Rochester study. That is far higher than taking herbs or pursuing other nontraditional healing modalities. And increasingly the evidence is that prayer works.

It doesn’t matter if you pray for yourself or for others, pray to heal an illness or for peace in the world, or simply sit in silence and quiet the mind — the effects appear to be the same. A wide variety of spiritual practices have been shown to help alleviate the stress levels, which are one of the major risk factors for disease. They also are powerful ways to maintain a positive outlook and successfully weather the trials which come to all of us in life.” Click here to read more

As you can see prayer works the same way as a meditation and produces the feeling of control, alertness, peace of mind and helping reduce stress levels. Another great aspect of the prayer is that you can pray not only for yourself, but for others as well.

People who regularly practice prayer as one of meditation methods for health are more healthy and live longer and happier life.

In this article Indian religious authority Yogiraj Gurunath Siddhanath criticizes recent CNN report on the topic of “mindful eating”.

“DALLAS, Jan. 12, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Eastern religion and philosophy have permeated American culture in many ways, especially as far as health and wellness are concerned. The predominance of yoga as a fitness technique is just one example. Another comes from a recent CNN report on the topic of “mindful eating.” In the report, CNN details a new movement in which restaurant diners think deliberately about feelings of hunger and fullness as they consume their meals. This “mindful” approach to eating is said to provide weight loss assistance, and CNN notes that it emerges from a “Buddhist tradition” of “nonjudgmental awareness of one’s body and thoughts.” According to Indian religious authority Yogiraj Gurunath Siddhanath, though, the “mindful eating” approach has little to do with Eastern spirituality. Yogiraj Gurunath Siddhanath has issued an official statement that strongly criticizes the CNN report.” Click here to visit the original source of this post

As you see Yogiraj Gurunath Siddhanat has a different point of view on “mindful eating”. We’ll be bringing you much more on the topic of mindfulness in the future.

Here is another research study confirming this fact.

“A recent study suggests that intensive and sustained meditation may boost the activity of telomerase, an enzyme responsible for telomere length and maintenance. Reductions in telomerase and telomere length have been linked to aging, psychological distress, and other health problems such as cancer, diabetes and heart disease.

Telomeres are “protective DNA sequences at the end of chromosomes” which play a key role in cellular aging, and function as a clock that limits cell lifespan. Each time cellular division occurs, telomeres grow shorter, unless the enzyme telomerase builds them back up. Once telomeres grow too short, cellular death occurs because the cell can no longer replicate.”

Click here to read the rest of the article

If you want to choose things for the better in your life, meditation is not only good for your health, but the release of stress will improve the quality of your life.

“Meditation is the core of Zen practice. Zen literally means meditation. It comes from sanskrit and pali in India to the Chinese (Chan) to the Japanese. The posture of zazen. There are many different ways to do Zen meditation. During meditation our body and mind should be still. Depending on the individual, you may like to do sitting cross legged on the floor, kneeling on the floor, sitting in a chair, or even laying down.” Click here to read more
